Whether it’s a rainy day or you just need a break from the sand, I’ve got you covered! Check out this list of fun things to do with kids on St. Thomas that don’t involve the beach.
The Virgin Island Children’s Museum
The VI Children’s Museum is a local favorite for families. This interactive museum features an indoor playground, water table, building stations, reading nook, and so much more. My kids would go every day if they could! It’s a perfect stop when it’s raining or if you need to cool off in the AC.

Coral World
Coral World Ocean Park, is a must-visit for families and marine life enthusiasts. This marine park offers up-close encounters with various sea creatures, including turtles, sharks, and stingrays. Visitors can enjoy interactive experiences like snorkeling with sea turtles, swimming with dolphins, or even walking underwater with Sea Trek. Coral World also features an observatory that lets you explore the ocean without getting wet, offering 360-degree views of the surrounding coral reefs and marine life. Perfect for a fun and educational day trip!

99 Steps
The 99 Steps, located in Charlotte Amalie, are one of the island’s most iconic landmarks. Built in the 1700s during Danish colonial times, these historic steps were constructed from bricks brought over as ship ballast. While they’re often referred to as “99,” there are actually 103! Climbing the steps offers a scenic journey through the town’s hilly terrain (and it’s a great way to tire out the little ones!). At the top, you’ll find colorful homes, tropical plants, and stunning views of Charlotte Amalie and the harbor—perfect for photos and a little piece of local history. Keep climbing, and you’ll find Blackbeard’s Castle!
Tip: I recommend visiting morning or late afternoon to avoid the mid-day heat.
Fort Christian
Fort Christian in Charlotte Amalie is the perfect place to step back in time! Built between 1672 and 1680, this amazing fort is the oldest building in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Imagine walking through big, arched doorways and seeing the cool red brick walls!
Inside, there’s a museum filled with interesting treasures that tell the story of the island’s history. While it’s a fun stop for kids and families who love adventure, keep in mind that it’s self-guided and the signage can be a bit lacking.

Pirates Treasure Museum
Just a quick walk from the WICO cruise ship dock, this museum is packed with fun, interactive exhibits. It’s perfect for older kids, featuring real pirate artifacts and treasure maps that bring pirate adventures to life. You’ll learn about the daring deeds of famous pirates, see their cool treasures, and hear incredible stories. The Pirates Treasure Museum is a must-visit for kids who love pirates and want to embark on a treasure-hunting journey!
Admission: $16 adults Age 6-12: $9
